As we head into the winter months, we wanted to give you a few tips on how to prepare your house for those cold winter days and nights. Extreme winter temperatures can take a major toll on your home if you are not prepared. Also, in hopefully preventing major damages to your home, some of these tips will also help save you money on your electric bill.
Check out the tips below:
Leave your Heat On
The Holiday season is almost here and for a lot of people that means traveling to visit family and friends. If you are planning to go out of town, leave your heat set on 60 degrees. This will prevent pipes from freezing and bursting and you coming home to a giant mess and headache.
Change your Air Filters
Changing your air filters every other month will help reduce your energy bills and improve your quality of air.
It is recommended that you do not use space heaters. Space heaters can be a fire hazard and not to mention, they will increase your electric bill. Did you know that space heaters are behind 79 percent of deadly home heating fires, according to the National Fire Protection Association. Half of those fires start because an object sitting within three feet of the heater got too hot and caught fire, but even plugging the equipment into a power strip is extremely dangerous-the wrong outlet could put you in danger.
Temperature Below Freezing
If the temperature drops below freezing, leave your faucets dripping. This can help prevent your water pipes from freezing.
These are just a few tips that can help you be more prepared for the upcoming winter. As always, the Pointe Realty Group thanks you for your support.
